From nature to packaging: Brötje’s mycelium success story
From nature to packaging: Brötje’s mycelium success story

How Brötje and Grown bio are changing the packaging industry

We’re really excited to share our new partnership with Brötje, a leading heating technology company from Germany. Together, we’re changing the way products are packaged. Instead of the usual Styrofoam, Brötje is now using our eco-friendly mycelium packaging for their flat radiators. It’s a great move towards being more environmentally friendly, and we’re proud to be part of this change!

What is mycelium?

Mycelium is the root structure of fungi and serves as an exceptional packaging material because it comes from a renewable resource. This helps protect our planet, as it avoids, for example, cutting down trees and drilling for oil. Additionally, mycelium packaging is consistently sustainable from production to disposal because it is 100% compostable! After use, they can simply be thrown in the organic waste, compost, or directly in the garden. Nature takes care of the rest, naturally breaking down the packaging and turning it into valuable nutrients for the soil.

Switching to mycelium packaging

“Switching from Styrofoam to mycelium wasn’t just a change in materials—it was a step towards real sustainability. We chose Grown bio’s mycelium packaging because it’s not only environmentally friendly but also effective, even in conditions where other solutions like cardboard failed.“-
Sabine Reents, Sustainability Manager at Brötje

This shift reflects Brötje’s commitment to reducing waste and pollution and setting a new industry standard for green practices.

The benefits of mycelium packaging

  • Environmental Impact: Mycelium packaging is 100% compostable and breaks down naturally, contributing zero harmful waste compared to non-biodegradable Styrofoam
  • Protection and Durability: It provides excellent protection and durability, ensuring that sensitive items like radiators are securely protected during transit
  • Supporting Circular Economy: Bio-based materials contribute positively to the circular economy, returning to the earth without a trace once their purpose is served
  • Customizability: Each packaging solution is custom-designed to meet specific product dimensions and protection needs.

This is how it all started: with the 3D design!

A shining example

Choosing sustainable packaging like mycelium is more than a business decision—it’s a commitment to future generations. Join Grown bio and Brötje in embracing eco-friendly solutions today for a healthier tomorrow.

At a time when our planet is facing numerous environmental challenges, it is important that companies take responsibility for their impact on the environment. Our collaboration with Brötje was a great learning experience, and we look forward to working with them on future projects.
